Surgeons perform life-changing face transplant by using skin from patient’s stomach in

Dilmrod regains a new life after he appeared on a reality TV show as doctors rushed to give him a face transplant.

Dilmrold 20-year-old was just five-months-old when his faced was disfigured in a horrific fire, Express.co.uk reports.

As he grew up, Dilmrod became so unhappy with his own appearance he would hide away and even refused to even speak to his family over Skype.

However, after hiding away from the world for more than 20 years, he bravely decided to tell his story on Russian TV.

Following the appearance on the reality show, Dilmrod was flooded with offers from doctors wanting to help him regain his life.

Sergey Bogdanov, who is a specialist on burn wounds, was one of the surgeons who offered to help the young man.

Dr Bogdanov said: “We could have done a typical procedure whereby every scar was covered with a piece of skin, but we opted for a difficult, ‘out-of-the-box’ decision.”

To give Dilmrod a new face, surgeons used a 28 by 30 centimetre piece of skin from his stomach and transplanted it on to his face.

After the 13 hour long procedure, doctors said they were very optimistic that Dilmrod would see significant improvements to his quality of life.

They also added that the probability of post-surgery complications was minimal.

Dilmrod has said he was very happy with the results and added that he now plans to find a job and a wife in his native Tadzhikistan.
